Should the people in the United States be willing to give up income so others can benefit?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In my view, people should not be willing to give up their own income so that others would benefit. Although we live in a highly unequal society, our aim should be to improve our social structure such that all individuals receive equal opportunity to be able to make progress. If we simply hand over benefits to them, we may be in the danger of discouraging hard work. We are already a society that believes in meritocracy and giving benefits to others solely on the basis of their disadvantaged backgrounds is likely to create a sense of discord.
