I believe that the psychoanalysts view offers a very partial explanation of human personality. It accounts for individual differences in terms of how the intrapsychic forces of the id, ego and superego are balanced out. The conflict that stems from the expression of our innate and instinctual desires in a society that imposes several norms of conduct is what the psychoanalytic view focuses on, rather than describing how this results in varying personality traits.
