Is the lack of deductive necessity a strength or a weakness for a scientific theory? Why? When the phrase, “just a theory” is used to describe science, is it accurate? Why or why not?

Answer #1

The basic feature of science is its objectivity and validity. This is based on the facts that has been proved by deductivity. Hence, if aa scientific theory lack this feature of being deductive, it is a weakness for it, as it will make the scientific theory unreliable and invalid.

The theories of science are not wild guesses or assumptions, but they are explanations of facts that by thorough research and studies are proved, and by which the future can be predicted. Hence, it is inaccurate to describe the theories of science by the phrase "just a theory".

Philosophy Write a response to the passage below VR Deductive reasoning is a logical process in which a conclusion is based on the concordance of multiple premises that are generally assumed to be true. Inductive reasoning is a logical process in which multiple premises, all believed true or found true most of the time, are combined to obtain a specific conclusion. For this discussion I am going to use an example chemistry. Based on my understanding, You would use deductive...

Stephen Hawking stated in A Brief History of Time (1988) that "a good theory is characterized by the fact that it makes a number of predictions that could in principle be disproved or falsified by observation." In other words, a good theory needs to predict things that can be tested. As we already discussed in this learning block, the results of those tests will in turn lead to more questions and more tests. Based on the video with Stephen Hawking...

What was Einstein doing, and how old was he, when he developed his Theory of General Relativity? What happened in the field of physics that “left Einstein behind”? What was Einstein trying to do at the end of his life? Why? Discuss Einstein’s association with the scientific community during his lifetime, especially as it relates to science being a community activity, and explain how this may have helped or hindered his ability to find/develop the “theory of everything.”

What do you think of eac of these ideas? Do you agree or disagree for each one give the answer in full sentences 1. I do find his approach of deductive reasoning as a replacement of inductive reasoning a valid way to define scientific practice because the process is the process no matter if one is proving something right or wrong. I feel it can be applied to all branches and should be because as states in the reading it...

Intelligent design theory is an argument used by some people to challenge the teaching of evolution in public schools. One of the supporters of this idea claims that certain biological structures, such as the bacterial flagellum, require so many complex parts working together in perfect synchronization that it is not possible that they could have evolved from simpler structures. This argument states that a simpler structure could not perform the same function, which is evidence of “irreducible complexity.” This is...

Activity 1: Scientific Reports You may have heard the question “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” A similar question can be asked about experiments. “If a researcher performs an experiment and never publishes the result has science been performed?” Many people would say no because science is the accumulation of knowledge. If the results of an experiment are not published, knowledge is not gained. The final...
