3) To what extent do you engage in conformity behaviors, through either normative or informational social influence, and how can you change them?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Upon personal reflection, a lot of my behaviours are the result of both, normative and informational social influence. While compliance due to informative social influence tends to be due to my conscious will, I often find myself complying to others due to normative social influence unconsciously. I tend to assume that I am independent in my thought and behaviour, but when I think about their origins, I can trace them to the ideas of others, especially those I admire.

Perhaps a way to change my tendency to comply with others in order to be liked or accepted by them, I should spend time developing my own views and opinions about matters. I also should be more assertive and condifent to state my perspectives to others without feeling like I may be rejected for it. This also requires developing a strong sense of self esteem.
