What are the primary features of cortical organization?
(please give around a paragraph of description and please keep it simple and easy to follow)
Cortical organization refers to the cerebral cortex considered the main brain structure. Cortex is involved in processing of sensory information. The cerebral cortex is highly organized which is divided into many cortical areas which are in turn subdivided into several layers. The layers have different functions to perform. This differentiation is essential for appropriate cognitive functioning of the cerebral cortex, as a disorganized cortex leads to severe mental dysfunctions. Cerebral cortex is also the outer covering of gray matter over the hemispheres. It is somehow 2 -3 mm thick with gyri and sulci. Cerebral cortex is further divided into primary and secondary cortices. Primary cortices are specialized brain portions involved for simple processing whereas secondary portions of each respective cortex is involved fro more elaborate processing of information.
