5. People of higher status are sometimes said to gaze more and for longer periods than people of lower status. What do you think of this? Think of examples that would and would not be supportive of this theory.
One of the most important things about this theory is one’s socio-economic status. When one has enough buying power, one would engage in gazing more time and one would also gaze more deeply because one would be able to afford to buy it or one would be able to use one’s influence to thwart any threat that arises due to one’s gazing. Secondly, rich people have more time to look around and spend time and energy on things that interest them. This is one of the reasons rich people take more luxurious trips, shopping and tours that poor people. Finally, poor people wouldn’t like to be threatened or embarrassed by looking at others or other things that they cannot afford or they wouldn’t have any time to spend as they would be working most of the time to meet their expenses. For this reason, their needs would also be less.
