Explain the concept of ethical relativism. Identify at least three reasons supporting this theory, and three weaknesses.

Answer #1

According to the theory of ethical relativism; morality is relative to the norms of a person's culture. An action being right or wrong depends on the moral norms of the society in which it is practiced. A action may be morally right in one society but be morally wrong in another. The reason why I support this theory is; it takes care of the diversity in our society, represents the actual situation, makes us less rigid and makes people tolerant. However the weakness include; little reason to be moral other than to fit in, no room for criticism of evil practices such as addiction and no room for improvement.
