Limited war is a type of war where the objective over which or for which the war is declared betwixt two parties is limited in nature.

Whereas in total war, the objective are muddled and there is no clear distinction between what the objective is over which the war is taking place, but a cumulative factor.

Within limited war there is a restricted use of weapons, such as the most probably exclusion of nuclear weapons.

Whereas, in total war there is a total disregard for any restrictions whatsoever on weapons and no ethical bounds of war are followed.

One such example of total war would world War 2

And an example of limited war would Indo China war of 1962
