As a forensic psychologist, I would tend to subscribe to the developmental theory much more than the critical criminology perspective. While critical criminology theory explains how crime is connected to a system of social inequality, it fails to take into account individual level factors that lead to criminal behaviour. The developmental theory very clearly traces the criminal behaviour in terms of an individual’s life span. As a theoretical perspective, it assumes that intervention and rehabilitation for the offender is very much possible.
