A skydiver jumps out of an aeroplane and begins to fall. (a) The skydiver’s parachute deploys and, from a height of 1 800 m, the skydiver falls with a constant speed of 26 km/hr. How long does it take for the skydiver to fall to the ground from this height? (1 mark) (b) At a height of 1 800 m the skydiver accidently lets go of a camera (with an initial downward speed of 26 km/hr). What speed is the camera travelling at when it hits the ground? Ignore air resistance acting on the camera. (c) If the camera had a horizontal speed of 15 m/s when it was released, how far would it land from the point immediately below where it was dropped? Again ignore air resistance.

A skydiver is at an altitude of 1,525 m. After 11.0 seconds of free fall, he opens his parachute and finds that the air resistance, FD, is given by the formula FD = −bv, where b is a constant and v is the velocity. If b = 100,and the mass of the skydiver is 86.0 kg, first set up differential equations for the velocity and the position, and then find the following. (Assume air resistance is negligible prior to the...

Locusts can jump to heights of 0.870 m. A) Assuming the locust jumps straight up, and ignoring air resistance, what is the takeoff speed of the locust? b) The locust actually jumps at an angle of about 55.0° to the horizontal, and air resistance is not negligible. The result is that the takeoff speed is about 40.0% higher than the takeoff speed when the locust jumps straight up, and ignoring air resistance. If the mass of the locust is 2.00...
