Question

Can you show me step by step how to covert, The following times are given using metric prefixes on the base SI unit of time: the second. Rewrite them in scientific notation without the prefix. For example, 47 Ts would be rewritten as 4.7 × 1013 s. (a) 980 Ps; (b) 980 fs; (c) 17 ns; (d) 577 μs.

Thanks

We know SI unit of time is second.

In metric system prefixes, SI prefixes and SI symbol are given. In 47 Ts, T is for trillion or tera. 1 tera is equal to 1×10^12.

(a) 980 Ps, Here P is peta (quadrillion). 1 peta is equal to 1×10^15.

980 Ps is equal to 9.8 × 10^17 sec.

b) 980 fs, here f is femto. 1 femto is equal to 10^(-15).

980 fs = 9.8 × 10^(-13) sec

(c) 17ns, here n is nano. 1 nano = 10^(-9).

So 17ns = 1.7 × 10^(-8) sec.

(d) 577µs. Here µ is 10^(-6)

So 577µs = 5.77 × 10^(-4) sec
