A gas is sorted in a cylinder at a pressure pf 6*10^5 N/m^2 and at a temperature of 10C. What will be the change of the volume of the gas at 35C if the pressure of the gas does not change?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Initial condition –

P1 = 6x10^5 N/m^2

V1 = V (suppose)

T1 = 273+10 = 283 K

Final condition –

P2 = P1 = 6x10^5 N/m^2 (Pressure does not change)

V2 = ?

T2 = 273 + 35 = 308 K

Use the gas law –

P1*V1 / T1 = P2*V2/T2

Pressure remains constant.

So, V1 / T1 = V2 / T2

=> V2 = (V1*T2) / T1

Put the values –

V2 = (V*308) / 283 = 1.09*V

So, change in the volume of the gas ?V = V2 – V1 = 1.09*V – V = 0.0883V

Percentage change in the volume = (?V/V)*100 = 8.83 %

So, final volume of the gas will increase by 8.83%.
