Assume that an Air Conditioner uses 21 amperes of current when turned on with a 220 volt line.

a) Calculate the power P used
b) Considering the cost of 22 cents ($0.22) per kilowatt-hour, how much would it cost to run the AC for 12 hours a day?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a). Power ( P ) = V I

= 220 21

= 4620 Watts

b). Watts to kilowatt-hour

4620 watts = 4620 / (1000 1 )

Energy = 4.620 kilowatt per hour

run the AC in a day = 12 hours

cost of the kilowatt-hour 22 cents ( 0.22 )

one hour cost = 4.620 22

= 101.64 cents ( 1.0164 )

total cost of the 12 hours in a day = 101.64 12

= 1219.68 cents ( 12.1968 )
