You are looking to purchase a small piece of land in Hong Kong. The price is "only" $60,000 per square meter! The land title says the dimensions are 15 m ✕ 35 m. By how much would the total price change (in dollars) if you measured the parcel with a steel tape measure on a day when the temperature was 19°C above normal? (Include the sign of the value in your answer.)
please help thanks
we know, coeffcient of thermal expansion of steel, alfa = 13*10^-6 C^-1
so, increase in length, delta_L = Lo*alfa*dT
= 1*13*10^-6*19
= 0.000247 m
new length of meter scale, L = Lo + delta_L
= 1 + 0.000247
= 1.000247 m
length of the land, l = 15/1.000247
= 14.9963 m
breadth of the land, b = 35/1.000247
= 34.999136 m
new cost of land = (14.9963*34.999136)*60000/(15*35)
= 59984 $
change in prize = new prize - old prize
= 59984 - 60000
= $ 16 <<<<<<<-------------Answer
