After passing through the wood, the bullet emerges at a speed of only 110.0m/s. if the block of wood has mass of 125.0g, what is the speed of the block immediately after the bullet passes through it?

Mass of Block ,MB = 250 g

Inital velocity of bullet Vbi = 250 m/s

Final Velocity of bullet Vbf= 110 m/s

Inital velocity of block VBi = 0 m/s

Final Velocity of block VBf= ? m/s

In this situation Momentum is conserved

That is, Momentum Before Collision =Momentum After Collision

Mb*Vbi + MB*VBi =Mb*VVbf + MB*VBf

15*250 + 125*0 = 15*110 + 125 *VBf

3750 = 1650 + 125 *VBf

VBf = (3750-1650)/125

VBf = 16.8 m/s

ANSWER: Speed of block immediately after the bullet passes throught it is 16.8 m/s
