an astronomer in the ground was thrown (projectile motion) to space with initial velocity 14m/s her mass is 90 Kg. Calculate the normal force.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When astronomer is thrown to space and ther is no contact force supporting her, there will not be any Normal force on Astronomer. There will be following forces acting :

1. Gravitational force towards earth

2. Air resistance force to oppose her movement

Above two forces will govern the acceleration/ deceleration of astronomer

Normal Force = 0

NOTE:

If the astronomer is on rocket and supported by a contact force, then the Normal force will be given as:

m *(g+a); where "g" is acceleration due to gravity and "a" is acceleration component of rocket above ground (vertical direction) and "m" is mass of astronomer.
