in rotation what is different between rolling friction and kinetic friction

and why rigid body why we don't use rolling friction although they are rotating

Homework Answers

Answer #1

rolling friction is friction between a point and surface which change its position every second ie displacement of same point is zero under same friction hence here workdone by friction is zero. Where as under kinatic friction there is a motion of same point under same friction force and hence in this situation there is a net displacement and hence work by this force.

iin rigid bodies we dont use rolling friction as net work done is zero hence there is no effect on energy loss. It just favor the motion without any loss hence is not taken into account for any calculation purpose or force diagram

I am conducting an experiment to calculate the coefficient of rolling friction for two different objects (a handball and a tennis ball), and I need clarification as to what formula and information is required to calculate this value. I am thus far informed that it is a factor of speed, which ties in to the distance of deformation from the center of the ball (or wheel) to where the ball is no longer touching the surface (arc length). If there...

16. A 15.0 kg box rests on a flat table. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the table and the box is 0.20, and the coefficient of static friction is 0.25. A string pulls on the box with a force of 78 N at 0.0o. Using appropriate quantitative problem-solving steps, determine whether the box remains at rest or accelerates. If the box accelerates, determine the acceleration. A) Calculate the maximum static friction. Keep four sf. B) Calculate the kinetic friction....
