calculate the the weight of a stone of mass 2 kg when weighed in the vacuum on earths surface

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given the mass of the stone is 2 kg.

On the surface of Earth, the acceleration due to gravity is about g= 9.8 m / s^2. If the object is placed in the, the acceleration will still be g=9.8 m / s^2 as long as it is still on the surface of earth.

there is misconception that in vaccum the body starts to float. it only happens outside the earths atmosphere but as long as the body is still on the earths atmosphere it will experience the same accleration due to gravity oirrespective of vacuum or in atmosphere.

So the weight of the Stone of mass 2kg is

W=mg

here

m is the mass of the stone .

g is the acceleration due to gravity.

A spring is hanging vertically from a shelf. When a weight of mass 0.16 kg is hung from the spring, the spring stretches a distance 25 cm. That weight is then removed and a new weight of mass 0.30 kg is hung from the spring. This second weight is then lifted a distance of 1.8 cm and released. The weight oscillates up and down. What is the period of oscillation (in units of seconds)?
