Explain the reason that we dont see the back side of the moon? Mention the rotational speed of both the earth and the moon.

Answer #1

This question is very interesting and let me tell you one thing that most of the people are not aware of this fact that we only see one face of the moon (the other face has got a name "The dark side")

so, why is that so ???

This is due to a process called as "Tidal locking". Now what's this ??

In simple words (but somewhat true), It means that the moon rotates around the earth at EXACT SAME ANGULAR SPEED as it rotates around its own axis

It takes same time for the moon to rotate once about its axis as around the earth.

Therefore, the orbital period matches the rotational period.

In this problem, we will calculate the tangential speed of the moon vm (in units of m/s) two different ways, then compare the two. a) The moon's orbital time period is 27.32 days (for exactly one revolution). Given its orbital radius of 3.84 x 108 meters (essentially the earth-moon distance), find the speed of the moon as it orbits earth. b) Newton tells us that the necessary centripetal force acting on the moon is supplied by gravity: vm= square root...

The aliens have landed on the moon! They’re setting up their base even as we speak. Specifically, they’re setting up the rec room with the big screen TV and surround sound system. The big screen is really big (? = 4.0m), and they place a speaker on either side of the screen, facing the couch. The couch (made of rich dorpintup leather, very fancy) is also exactly ? = 4.0m wide, and it is precisely ? = 3.0m away from...
