A pump delivers water (r= 1000 kg/m3, µ= 0.860x10-3 kg/m·s) from one reservoir to another reservoir through 120 m of 0.05 m diameter pipe. Volumetric flow rate in the pipe line is measured with venturi meter. Throat diameter of venturi meter is 38 mm and pressure drop in the venturi meter is 156.9 kPa.The surface of the pipe is rough e/D=0.0001. Calculate the power of the pump required for the water–transfer. See the figure below for several pipe– fittings installed on the pipe-line.

A pump is used to deliver water from a large reservoir to another large reservoir that is 20 m higher. The inlet of the pipe is submerged in the one reservoir and the exit is just above the surface of the other reservoir. If the friction head loss in the 200-mm-diameter, 4-km-long pipeline is 2.5 m for every 500 m of pipe length, determine the required power output of the pump so the flow is 0.6 m3/s.

Water at 20 0C is pumped at a rate of Q4= 0.042 m3/s from lower reservoir to a higher reservoir with a height difference of H4=37 m as shown in the figure. The flow is assumed steady and incompressible. If irreversible losses in the pipe can be neglected, calculate the pump efficiency in percent, if the electric motor is rated at P4=29.1 kW and the motor efficiency can be assumed to be n4=87%. Water at 20 0C is pumped at a rate of Q4= 0.022 m3/s from lower reservoir to a higher reservoir with a height difference of H4=43 m as shown in the figure. The flow is assumed steady and incompressible. If irreversible losses in the pipe can be neglected, calculate the pump efficiency in percent, if the electric motor is rated at P4=29.4 kW and the motor efficiency can be assumed to be n4=82%.

A steel pipeline conveys water (density 1000 kg/m3 , bulk modulus 2.05x109 N/m2 ) from an upper to a lower reservoir the pipeline material is steel with Young’s modulus 210x109 N/m2 . It is 611 m long, has an internal diameter 1.1m, wall thickness 25 mm and surface roughness 0.68 mm. The flow is controlled by a valve located at the entrance to the lower reservoir, 211 m below the surface level in the upper reservoir. (a) Under steady flow...

Water (at 25o C) from a lake is desired to be pumped over a 100 m high hill to a pool of a house. A 300 m pipeline has three 45o elbows, two 90o elbows, two gate valves (one wide open and one half open). The dimensions of the pool are 8x6x2 m3 . The readily installed pump whose efficiency is 70% requires 6.4 kW power to fill the pool in 6 hours. The suction line is 5 m long...
