1. A −1.0 μC charge experiences a 10 N downward force in an electric field.
What force would a 1.0 μC charge experience in the same field?

2. Two charged spheres are 24 cm apart. The spheres are moved so that the force on each
of them is tripled. How far apart are they now? Show your work.

Answer #1

(1) Since both the charges have same magnitude, they will feel electrical force of same magnitude. But since the charges have opposite polarities, they direction of the force will be reversed.

Hence, the 1.0 μC charge will experience a 10 N upward force in the same electric field.

(2) The new seperation between the spheres is : 13.86 cm.
