Describe the ways for heat loss for a flat plate thermal collector. What is the reason for multiple glass covers in front of the collector?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The heat loss is an important characteristic of a flat-plate solar collector. In general, in a flat-plate solar collector, heat is lost from the absorber plate through the glass cover, the back insulation, and the edge, and they are indicated as the top loss, bottom loss, and edge loss.

Most of the heat is lost from the front side of the collector , if we used the multiple plates then it has large area to collect the heat which basically increase its efficiency otherwise single plate cause increase in temperature cause large heat loss and reduction in its efficiency.
