What is the proportionality statement for electric field strength and electric potential? And what equation was it taken from? Cause my graph is exponential when I graphed electric field strength vs electric potential, but when looking at E= V/d , shouldn’t it be linear?
Electric field is inversely proportional to the square of the distance source, graph between electric field and distance r will be exponential.
Electric potential is inversely proportional to the distance from source, graph between V and distance r will be exponential.
Electric field (E) and potential difference (dV) are related
E= -dV/dr, where dr is the distance between point having potential difference dV. Negative sign indicate direction of electeic field will be in decrease potential.
Let us take example of electeic field and potential due to point charge.
E = kq/r2. V = kq/r
E = -dV/dr
This relations tells electric field between two points is equal to potential difference between the points divided by distance between points. Graph between E and dV will be exponential.
