A student recorded the speed of an object as a function of time and obtained the following data:

Reading no. Time (s) Speed (m/s)

1 2.0 1.20

2 3.0 1.70
3 5.0 2.70
4 5.50 2.95
5 6.60 3.50

6 8.0 4.20
1) Prepare a sheet of graph paper for plotting Speed versus time. You should make the speed on the vertical axis and the time on the horizontal axis.

2) Plot the measured values on the speed-time graph.

3) Draw a best fit line to the points on your graph.

4) Describe the relationship between speed and time.

5) Find the Slope of the best fit line.

6) Find the y- intercept.

7) Write the equation that mathematically describe the relation between speed and time.

Answer #1

4. As from the graph we can see that the speed and time is directly proportional to each other with an intercept over the y axis. So with the passage of time our speed is increasing linearly.

So v and t is directly proportional to each other.
