A student decides to move a box of books into her dormitory room by pulling on a rope attached to the box. She pulls with a force of 11 N at an angle of 87 degrees relative to the horizontal. The box has a mass of 14 kg and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the floor and box is 0.83.

  1. Calculate the acceleration of the box.
  2. The student now starts moving the box up a 17 degree incline, keeping her 11 N force at 87 degree above the line of the incline. If the coefficient friction is still 83, calculate the new acceleration.

Carol wants to move her 32kg sofa to a different room in the house. She places "sofa sliders", slippery disks with coefficient of kinetic friction= 0.080, on the carpet, under the feet of the sofa. She then pushes the sofa at a steady 0.40 m/s accross the floor using a force of 25 N. If Carol had pushed the sofa with a force of 30 N, instead of 25N, choose ONLY one correct answer below:                                                             a. the box would move...
