Driving is a multifaceted process, involving a wide range of sequences and processes to do so effectively. Driving a manual transmission adds another layer of complexity. That is, you need to be able to sequence letting off the gas, pushing in the clutch, changing gears, letting out on the clutch and pressing on the gas. When first learning, this sequencing can be difficult, resulting in many engine stalls in the middle of intersections. But with time, the process becomes easier as it moves from being a controlled process to an automatic process. Your task is to pick a motor sequence similar to driving a car with a manual transmission (for instance - hitting a tennis ball, or riding a bicycle) and describe the sequence of steps involved, and how this process moves from controlled to automatic.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

steps involved in riding a bicycle -

1) sit on the bicycle keeping the balance. This can be done in two different ways -

a) tilt the bicycle and sit

b) press a pedal of one side, jump and throw your other leg to another side to sit.

2) press the pedal and your bicycle will start moving

While learning this can seem difficult. But with the practice, it becomes easy. As our brain makes reflexes for this. Repeating the processes, we train the brain. And after some time, we need not remember, what are the steps to ride the bicycle.
