A 2.77 μg2.77 μg particle moves at 1.91×108 m/s.1.91×108 m/s. What is its momentum ??

Answer #1

Since speed of particle is very close to speed of light so using relativistic equations:

Momentum of particle is given by:

p = *m*V

m = mass of particle = 2.77 g = 2.77*10^-9 kg (Since 1 = 10^-6 & 1 gm = 10^-3 kg)

V = speed of particle = 1.91*10^8 m/s

= Lorentz factor

So

p = *m*V

p = 1.29678*2.77*10^-9*1.91*10^8

p = 0.686 kg.m/sec
