So, glass fiber are doped such that refractive index of the fiber at the centre should be greater than that at the outside of the cross section....The refractive index should be such that it has lower critical angle such that the signal whose angle of incidence is greater than that of critical angle suffers total internal reflection. This phenomenon will result in transmission of signal with very less loss....
