Jack and Jill raced up the hill. Jack beat Jill to the top of the hill. Does this mean that Jack had a higher peak acceleration than Jill during the race? Explain your answer

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Any one who climbed up the hill first will win. That's mean jack has climbed faster than Jill . Now climbing speed / velocity of Jack means higher than Jill.

Now velocity,

in this case initial velocity is zero for both of them ( where they have decided to start the race) .

Now velocity in this case is a function of acceleration and time ... ( V = a×t ) ..

a - acceleration , t - time , v - velocity...

So if the velocity of Jack has to be higher then acceleration has to be higher than Jill.

So yes the statement is true .. that the acceleration of Jack is greater than Jill.

A solid, uniform ball rolls without slipping up a hill, as shown in the figure (Figure 1) . At the top of the hill, it is moving horizontally; then it goes over the vertical cliff. Take V = 28.0 m/s and H = 24.0 m . Part A How far from the foot of the cliff does the ball land? Part B How fast is it moving just before it lands? Thank you in advance for your help!

The hill is covered in gravel so that the truck's wheels will slide up the hill instead of rolling up the hill. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the tires and the gravel is ?k. This design has a spring at the top of the ramp that will help to stop the trucks. This spring is located at height h. The spring will compress until the truck stops, and then a latch will keep the spring from decompressing (stretching back...

Modern roller coasters have vertical loops like the one shown in the figure. The radius of curvature is smaller at the top than on the sides so that the downward centripetal acceleration at the top will be greater than the acceleration due to gravity, keeping the passengers pressed firmly into their seats.
