3.1×1023 electrons move through a calculator in 5.0 hours.

A) Determine the magnitude of the total charge that flows through the calculator during the specified time.

B) Determine the magnitude of the flow rate of charge.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution :

Given :

Number of electrons (n) = 3.1 x 1023 electrons

Time taken (t) = 5 hours = 5 x 3600 sec = 18000 sec = 1.8 x 104 sec

Part (a) Solution :

Since the charge on each electron is (e) = 1.6 x 10-19 C

Therefore : the total charge that flows through the calculator during the specified time (Q) = n e

Thus : Q = (3.1 x 1023)(1.6 x 10-19 C) = 4.96 x 104 C

Part (b) Solution :

the magnitude of the flow rate of charge = Q / t = (4.96 x 104 C) / (1.8 x 104 sec) = 2.76 Amps
