A conducting loop lies in the plane of this page and carries a clockwise induced current. Select which of the following statements are true or false:

An increasing magnetic field is directed into the page.

A decreasing magnetic field is directed out of the page.

A constant magnetic field is directed out of the page.

A constant magnetic field is directed into the page.

Please explain answer as well.

Answer #1

The induced current in the conducting loop is in a clockwise direction. Using the Ampere’s right hand thumb rule, due to this induced current, there will be an increasing magnetic field into the page. According to Lenz’s law, the new magnetic field opposes the change in the original magnetic field. Hence, the original magnetic field was increasing out of the page or decreasing into the page.

Hence, all the four statements are false.

The correct statements are “a decreasing magnetic field is directed into the page or an increasing magnetic field is directed out of the page”.
