Two soda can is place in a fridge overnight. In the next morning two soda can are taken out from the fridge, one soda can is place horizontally and the other one is place vertically. Explain why temperature of liquid inside the horizontally placed soda can increases faster than the soda can in vertical placement.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

According to Newton's law of cooling/heating the rate of cooling/ heating of a body is directly proportional to the temperature difference and the surface area exposed.

In given problem, soda in the horizontal can exposed more with surrounding hence transfer of energy is more. So more amount of heat transfer take place from surrounding to horizontal soda can (because soda can is colder than surrounding) . that's why temperature of soda can placed horizontally increase faster.

5)Your cells can break down fats using fermentation or cellular respiration. a)true b)false 6])E. coli can do both fermentation and cellular respiration. You have two cultures of E. coli. You give them the same amount of food (glucose) and grow them at the same temperature. One culture is grown in open air, the other is placed in an oxygen free bag. The two cultures are growing at the same rate (producing new cells at the same rate). What is happening...

(a) Imagine eight caves in a circle and two hunters. Prove the wabbit can be caught. (b) Imagine nine caves in a grid (as shown below). The wabbit can move vertically or horizontally. For instance, if the wabbit is in cave 2 today, then tomorrow, the wabbit must be in one of caves 1, 3, or 5. Remember that the wabbit cannot stay in the same cave on consecutive days. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Table...

Some insect eyes have two types of cells that are sensitive to the plane of polarization of light. In a simple model, one cell type (type H) is sensitive to horizontally polarized light only, and the other cell type (type V) is sensitive to vertically polarized light only. To study the responses of these cells, researchers fix the insect in a normal, upright position so that one eye is illuminated by a light source. Then several experiments are carried out....

Adder Start out by picking 2 positive six bit binary numbers that are less than 3210, written in 2's complement notation. The eventual goal is to add these two numbers. 1) Look at the LSB bit of the numbers, and using logic gates (NANDs, NORs, etc.) design a circuit that correctly gives the right output for any possible combination of bits in the LSB place. 2) Now look at the next column to the left (next to LSB). In this...

2. A ball of negligible size and a given mass is attached to a vertical spring that obeys Hooke's law. At equilibrium, its position and gravitational potential energy is chosen to be "zero". The mass is set in oscillation in a vertical direction. At what point during the oscillation will the ball-earth-spring system have the most negative gravitational potential energy? A. The gravitational potential energy will be the most negative at its lowest position from the earth. B. The gravitational...

If two wires carry current next to each other, they will exert a force on each other. The force is caused by magnetic fields. One current creates a magnetic field, and this field exerts a force on the other current. The magnitude of the field created by a long, straight current-carrying wire is given by Equation 1 below; B= (μ0i)/(2πr) where i is the current and r is the distance from the wire. The magnitude of the force exerted on...
