A two polaroid system is set up with the transmission axis of the second polaroid at 90.0° counterclockwise from the vertical. A plane-polarised light beam with its polarization direction parallel to the vertical is sent through the system and its final transmitted light is only 13.5% of the initial intensity.
(a) Determine two possible angles of the first polaroid measured counterclockwise from its vertical.
(b) With the polaroid system unchanged, compare the final transmitted light intensity if an unpolarised light beam of same intensity is used.
