A binary star system consists of two stars revolving about their
common center of mass. If we observe the light reaching us from one
of these stars as it makes one complete revolution, what does the
Doppler effect predict will happen to this light?
There will be two scenarios. 1 when the star will approaching towards us in that case the frequency of the light observe will be greater than the actual light emitted by the star blue shift will be observed. Another case when the star will move away from the observer the frequency observed will be less than the the actual frequency! Since it is moving in a circular path the red shift and the blue shift will be e study increasing and reaches maximum value when the tangential velocity of the star is parallel to the the line of observation. And when the tangential velocity of the star is perpendicular to the the line of observation there will be no Doppler shift
