A square metal plate of edge 20 centimeters is suspended from the arm of a balance so that it is parallel to another fixed horizontal metal plate of the same demensions. The distance of separation between the plates is 1.5 millimeters. A difference of potential of 150 volts is now applied between the plates. What additional mass must be placed in the other arm of the balance so that the suspended plate will retain its origional position.
