If you jump off a 3 meter high diving board and do a cannonball into the pool, what happened?

Group of answer choices

The water will get colder.

The temperature of the water will increase by your mass times the specific heat of water

The thermal energy of the water will increase by an amount equal to the gravitational potential energy you had on the diving board.

The internal energy of the water will decrease by 3 times the specific heat of water.

Answer #1

Whenever we jump from a high diving board and do a cannonball into the pool , all the initial potential energy of the diver gets firstly converted into kinetic energy as it descends downwards towards the pool, and once it reaches the surface of water , all of its initial potential energy is converted into kinetic energy and then all this kinetic energy is converted into heat energy of the water. Thus , the thermal energy of the water will increase by an amount equal to the gravitational potential energy you had on the diving board. The basic principle lying underneath is due to the conservatory energy.

An 100 kg human decides to heat a 100,000 kg pool by jumping into it from a diving board. You may model the diving board as a vertical spring whose equilibrium position is level with the water’s surface. They compress this spring by d = 0.5 m prior to launch. The specific heat of liquid water is about 3187 J/kg K. Their landing heats up the water by 0.002° C. Throughout this problem, you may ignore air resistance. While the...

You want to do an experiment to measure the conversion of gravitational potential energy to kinetic energy to heat by dropping 2.0 kg of copper off the roof of LEHS, a height of 14 m. How much will the temperature of the copper increase? (Hint: Remember that potential energy is measured in J but specific heat capacity problems usually use kJ.)
