Describe each of the three types of ultraviolet radiation.
The three main types of UV rays are :-
1) UVA
2) UVB
3) UVC
UVA rays have the longest wavelengths, and these are transmitted through atmosphere. Most of the UV (98.7%) that reaches us on the earth’s surface is of type UVA and is less affected by the ozone. It can be the cause of aging of the skin.Fading of paints and dyes.It is the cause of skin cancer called melanoma.
UVB rays have wavelength smaller than UVA but larger than UVC and these are partially transmitted through atmosphere as some part of them is get abdorbed by ozone. These rays are responsible for sunburn and tan.For the production of Vitamin D.
UVC have smallest wavelength in all three types and because of this, most of the UVC rays are get absorbed by ozone, oxygen and nitrogen so very few pass through atmosphere. These Causes lesions on the skin.
