An old-fashioned incandescent lamp is basically just a resistor that gets hot enough to glow when a current passes through it. A modern strand of Christmas lights consists of a series small incandescent lamps wired together. Should these be connected in series or in parallel? Why?
Suppose we have 100 small incadascent lamps and that are connected in series .if all lamps are healthy no problem the all lamps will work smoothly. Incase if any one lamp filament is broken ( fuse) the all 99 healthy lamps will not work because all are connected in series no current will throw them due to one lamp malfunction (open circuit)
To solve this issue all this 100 lamps connected in parallel. Broken filament of any lamp will not affect others fruitful working. In Parallel circuit voltage across all lamps are same and current will flow independent each other
