List all factors that would not allow a pure transformation of gravitational potential energy to kinetic energy.
Usually gravitational potential energy converts to kinetic
energy while a body falls under the action of gravitational
force.
If there is no discipative force present, then there will be no
energy loss. Hence, the total potential energy will converts into
kinetic energy.
But in nature, there are lot's of discipative force present,
like,
1. Air resistance
2. Frictional force with surface, while falling through inclined
surface.
3. Cohesive force with medium
Etc.
Due to those discipative force, the body have to do some work
against them. Now we know that work and energy is equivalent, by
the body waste it's potential energy by doing those work. So these
discipative force generally don't allow the complete
conversion.
