a. Compute the height above sea level of the 500 mb pressure level assuming that the average virtual tempurerature of the layer from the surface to 50 mb is -20 degrees C.

b. At a location in the atmosphere where the average virtual temperature is 10 degrees C, find the height difference between 1000 hpa and 850 hpa levels.
