A 5.60 kg mass suspended from a spring with spring constant, k =850 N/m, extends it to a total length of 0.250 m. Find the new total length of the spring when a 16.00 kg mass is suspended

Homework Answers

Answer #1

apply the relation between force and spring consatnt as F = kx

i.e mg = K(x-x0)

where K is 850 N/m

m is mass   = 5.6 Kg

so x-x0 = mg/K

x-x0 = ( 5.6 * 9.8/850)

x-x0 = 0.064 m

but given x-x0 = 0.25

x0 = 0.25 -0.064

x = 0.186 m is the actual length.

so now when m = 16 kg suspended

again

x- x0 = 16 * 9.8 /850

x-x0 = 0.1844

x = new total klength = 0.186 + 0.18444

x = 0.37 m   --------<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<answe
