Question

What is the resistance of a 4-W resistor and a 12-W resistor connected in parallel?

What is the resistance of a 4-W resistor and a 12-W resistor connected in parallel?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

I'm assuming the units of resistor are Ohm() and not W

Now when resistors are connected in parallel, then

1/Req = 1/R1 + 1/R2

Req = R1*R2/(R1 + R2)

Given that R1 = 4 & R2 = 12

So,

Req = equivalent resistance = 4*12/(4 + 12)

Req = 3

Check the unit and let me know if it doesn't work.

Two resistors are connected in parallel. a.) If a third resistor is now connected in parallel with the original two, does the equivalent resistance of the circuit increase, decrease, or remain the same? b.)
