You’ve climbed to the top of a telephone pole. As you reach it, the pole breaks at the base. (a) What energies are present initially ? (b) What energies are present at the final moment you fall with the pole? If instead you were to let go the pole the moment it broke, would your responses change?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The energy possessed initially , when we are at the top of the telephone pole is the gravitational potential energy which is there due to the height reached by us at the top of the pole.

The energy at the final moment is the kinetic energy ( the same potential energy is now being converted into kinetic energy).

If we jump before the pole got broke our responses would have been same. The potential energy would still be there due to the height that we have climbed and the kinetic energy would still have been there bcoz of the jump that we have made in order to skip the fall from the pole.

You are holding a grandfather clock in a stationary elevator on the top floor. The clock has a pendulum with a period T = 1.0 seconds. Suddenly the elevator cable breaks, and you and the clock are in free fall. What happens to the period of the pendulum as you fall? A.The period decreases slightly. B.The period becomes zero. C.The period does not change. D.The period increases slightly. The period becomes infinite because the pendulum would not swing.

This assignment requires you to develop the Improvements and Optimizations portion of your technical paper. Remember, while the Improvements and Optimizations portion should be as thorough and complete as possible, it may require some revisions and modifications before you submit your final project. Additionally, you will explore professional development organizations and training for professionals in your field (i.e. software developer, systems architect, etc.) and report on opportunities for membership, further education, networking, and professional support provided by the organizations you’ve...

A.) How hot is the air in the top (crown) of a hot air balloon? Information from Ballooning: The Complete Guide to Riding the Winds, by Wirth and Young (Random House), claims that the air in the crown should be an average of 100°C for a balloon to be in a state of equilibrium. However, the temperature does not need to be exactly 100°C. What is a reasonable and safe range of temperatures? This range may vary with the size...

What are your top 3 take aways from this article? Technology is no longer just for geeks. The internet has changed everything, including marketing. Be they small, medium or large, social media grants all companies an equal playing field on which to organically reach new customers. However, success will always ride on the marketing strategy employed. Obviously, larger companies have the advantage of bigger budgets and more resources. But that doesn’t mean social media for small business owners can’t compete...

Instructions Critical Thinking Go back to your very first journal entry – review your definition of critical thinking. After studying critical thinking for the past eight weeks, would you change your definition in any way? If yes, how and why? If no – if it was perfect – what parts of the text...

1. First consider a mass on an inclined slope of angle θ, and assume the motion is frictionless. Sketch this arrangement: 2. As the mass travels down the slope it travels a distance x parallel to the slope. The change in height of the mass is therefore xsinθ. By conserving energy, equate the change of gravitational potential energy, mgh = mgxsinθ, to the kinetic energy for the mass as it goes down the slope. Then rearrange this to find an...
