1. miguel caberera hits a ground ball down the 3rd baseline and is trying to beat the throw to first. starting from rest at home plate, he runs down the first baseline through the bag, slowing down only after safely passing first base, explain, in words, what the velocity vs. time AND acceleration vs. time graphs would look like from the moment he leaves the home plate to when he touches first base.

2. When the next batter comes to the plate, Miguel tries to steal second base. when the pitcher throws the ball, he starts running from rest and slides into second base, coming to a complete stop. Explain, in words, what the velocity vs. time AND acceleration vs. time graphs would look like from the moment he leaves the first base to when he reaches second base.

Answer #1

1. The problem is related to the uniform motion of the person moving from home plate to the first baseline and then slowing down only after safely passing first base. It means the velocity increases as the person was at rest to till he reaches the first baseline and then his velocity decreases and also the acceleration remains constant till the first baseline but it decreases afterwards.

2. Here, the situation is similar to the first, but the person's velocity needs to decreases as to stop completely at the second baseline. Similarly, the acceleration first increases when the person starts at the first baseline and then before arriving at the second baseline its acceleration decrease to come to a complete stop.
