18. How does an electric guitar pickup work?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

An electric guitar pick up is actually a coil wrapped around a permanently magnetic pole and acts as an inductive sensor. This sensor is then placed below a string which is made of a magnetic metal. When this string vibrates , a signal is generated in the inductive coil. This is because due to vibration of the string , the magnetic field of the coil gets disturbed, as a response of this changing magnetic field , the pick up generates signals which are further amplified to produce sound
