From rescue step on the gas of your car providing a force F for for second speeding it up to a final speed of V if the applied force were only 1/2 F how long would it have to be applied to reach the same final speed

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Acceleration = force /mass

Since mass is constant,

Therefore acceleration is directly proportional to the force.

Therefore in second case when applied force is F/2 , then acceleration will also be a/2 in this case.

Also , using equation of motion, V = u + at

Which means final speed (V) is directly proportional to the product of acceleration (a) and time (t).

Since the acceleration in case 2 is a/2 , therefore the time taken to reach the same speed V will be 2t in this case.

Finally, in short we can say that time taken to reach the same speed when force is reduced to half(F/2) will be twice the time taken when the force applied was F.

During a collision when an average stopping force F is exerted on a car by an obstacle, the car's bumper retracts a distance Δx. These two quantities are related by the equation FΔx=0.5mv0^2. Use proportional reasoning to determine the necessary percent change in the retraction distance so that the average force required to stop a car is reduced by 26 %. Express your answer as a percentage. Enter positive value if the distance increases and negative value if the distance...

The motor of an early V-2 rocket produces a fairly constant force on the ship by ejecting hot gases through a nozzle at the rear of the ship. Typical data are: weight of ship=32,000 lbs, force from rocket engine = 60,000 lb acting for 50 seconds, rate of gas ejection= 12 slugs/second. (a) At what speed (relative to the ship) must the gas leave the rocket to produce the 60,000 lb thrust? (b) If the rocket did not become lighter...

The combination of an applied force and a frictional force produces a constant torque of 40 N·m on a wheel rotating about a fixed axis. The applied force acts for 8.0 seconds, during which time the angular speed of the wheel increases from 0 to 700 degrees/second. The applied force is then removed, and the wheel comes to rest in 55 s. Answer the following questions. (a)What is the magnitude of the angular acceleration of the wheel while the applied...
