Assuming a frictionless surface, explain how Newton’s three laws of motion are in action as an air hockey puck slides across the table and then hits the side of the table wall.

Explain in detail! Not just a short sentence

Answer #1

As it start sliding, it continues to slide until any external force is not applied to stop it. This is the first law.

Now , since the table is frictionless, so,basically there is no acceleration recorded since net external force is zero.

This is second law, which says that , acceleration is proportional to the force applied.

Now finally, when it hits the side, then it exerts some force on it and in return, side also exerts equal and opposite

force on it which is nothing but the 3rd law.

A billiard ball that weighs about 0.50 kg slides without rolling along a frictionless surface at a velocity of 3.5 m/s. It hits a stationary billiard ball of the same mass. After the collision, the first ball is redirected 45 degrees to the west side of its initial direction, while the second ball is redirected 45 degrees to the east side of the first ball’s initial direction. Both balls have the same speed after the collision, and both slide without...
