A) At what volumetric rate (in ?3/?) is Antarctic Deep Water (AADW) formed?

B) Approximately what percentage of the cold water (< 9°?) that travels in the Florida Straits between Key West and Cuba will be utilized by a single 100 MW OTEC power plant?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A) Normally, the temperature of the Deep water is very less and it lies in the remote ice covered area so the volumetric rate normally calculated for the formation of deep water at zero degree centigrade is about 10-15×10^6 m^3/s.

B) The percentage depends on the efficiency of the engine and it is estimated that the efficiency for cold water utilization is only 4 percent. Hence 4 percentage of the cold water that travels will be utilized by a single 100MW OTEC power plant.

I know this much. Thank you
