Draw a closed circuit diagram showing that electricity is flowing from the (+) to the (-) terminal of the power source. Label the (+) and (-) terminal, switch, and bulb. Explain briefly.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A simple closed circuit diagram is as given below.

In the it diagram, all the components, viz, battery (Voltage/power source), switch, and bulb are connected in series. hence current has only one path to flow, ie through the wire connecting these components.

  • The battery will provide the necessary potential difference for the bulb to glow.
  • The switch allows the circuit to be closed or open. Current can flow only through a closed circuit. Since electrons (being negative charge) always from negative to positive terminal (due to repulsion), the direction of current will be from the positive terminal of the battery to the negative terminal of the battery. (opposite to the direction of flow of electrons)
  • When this current reaches the bulb, it glows using the current flowing in the circuit.

A simple circuit can be created using a voltage source of some form, let's say a battery, and a load, something that converts electrical energy into some other form of energy. An example of a load might be the thin wire filament in a light bulb, where the electrical energy is being converted into thermal energy and light energy. The resistance is a property of the load that determines how much current flows through the load. Ohm's Law relates the...

Please answer.. Overview: When a wire is attached to the positive terminal of a power source, such as a battery, and to the negative terminal of the battery a potential difference is set across that wire and a current is generated through that wire. Depending on how much resistance there is in the wire will affect the amount of current through that wire. Adding more resistance will further affect the amount of current.  In this experiment you will measure both the...

Suppose you have a circuit with a 10 volt battery hooked up to a 100 ohm light bulb and a variable resistor of R ohms. The light bulb and the resistor can be hooked up in series or parallel. Draw both these circuits and label them as series or parallel and with the values of each component. Now, solve for the current in the light bulb in each of these circuits for R = 10, 100, and 1000 Ohms. Given...
