Of excitation, fluorescence, and phosphorescence, which will produce a spectrum that is most similar to an absorption spectra of the same sample? Justify your answer.
Fluorescence has a spectrum most similar to the absorption spectrum. Since both absorption spectrum and fluorescence spectrum are observed after a sample is subjected to some kind of electromagnetic radiation. For absorption spectrum, the absorbed wavelengths are missing from the observed, in case of fluorescence the absorbed wavelengths are emitted in the form of longer wavelengths. Thus the gaps in absorption spectrum correspond to the increased wavelengths in the fluorescence spectrum.
